LIZ PARKER

Area of expertise: Workers rights, fashion education and consultancy

A commitment to social and environmental justice underpins Liz Parker’s work as a freelance researcher, consultant, facilitator and educator. For over a decade, the focus of her work has been corporate practices, supply chains, labour and environmental standards and international trade policy in the garment and agriculture sectors. Between 2006 and 2010 she was joint project coordinator of Fashioning an Ethical Industry, a project of Labour Behind the Label, that supports the integration of workers’ rights issues into fashion education.

ADA ZANDITON

Area of Expertise: INNOVATION Award winning sustainable brand – Product development and sustainable sourcing

Ada Zanditon made her London Fashion Week catwalk debut in September 2009 (Vauxhall Fashion Scout, Ones to Watch), and has since built her presence at LFW presenting with ON/OFF and exhibiting at Estethica in Somerset House. In 2009 she won the Masters of Linen – Creativity award and was selected for the British Fashion Council’s eco-fashion mentoring programme – working with mentor Bev Malik (Browns, Harvey Nichols).

In 2010 Ada won the Ethical Fashion Forums INNOVATION Award and The Fairtrade Cotton Award.

In September 2010, her SS11 collection was featured in the first LFW on schedule sustainable catwalk show, part of an event organised by Prince Charles and Anna Wintour at Clarence House. In 2011 she was one of fifteen high profile designers to be part of the Fairtrade Collective, designing a scarf in Fairtrade Cotton that is being retailed on Asos.com. Recently fine jewellers Ingle and Rhode asked Ada to design the first ever Fairtrade Fairmined Gold Necklace which was featured in a competition on Vogue.com.

Ada has been featured in a wide range of press globally including Grazia, Vogue, The Observer magazine, Elle & Elle Collections, Prim, Schon, Vision, Vogue Russia, Italian Vogue, The Word, Sunday Times Style, Stella, Glamour, Sublime, Times Luxx, Metro, Dazed Digital, Style Bubble and many more.

Alex Smith is a highly experienced retail buying professional with extensive knowledge of fashion and business development.

With nineteen years front line experience, working for both high street fashion multiples and niche brands sourced both at home and overseas Alex has delievered commercial, trend-led profitable ranges, managed busy teams, worked with businesses of all sizes including sustainable fashion brands and businesses and has recently set up her own consultancy Considered Style Consultancy.

Amisha is the mastermind behind the Ethical Fashion Network, which has a current growth rate of 100 new members every week. As founder and director of Amisha jewellery, Amisha has years of experience and has achieved considerable success in the promotion of design led product through press, media and social networking channels- on a restricted budget.

In her former role as Associate Director of the Ethical Fashion Forum, Amisha was responsible for social media and promotion of a raft of initiatives from events to the INNOVATION competition. She was production manager for the RE: Fashion Awards, the worlds leading ethical fashion award event, and played an overall strategic role with EFF. She is also founder of Think Act Vote.

Amisha now works with fashion brands helping them understand the complete picture when it comes to bringing sustainability into their businesses, and advising them on how to increase their presence in the media and on-line.

AMY YATES

Area of Expertise : Entrepreneurship and fair trade

Amy Yates founded Mamacha in 2008 and has been working with women’s projects in Peru for six years.

She has a sound knowledge and understanding of the country and its culture having spend a year living in northern Peru and reading Spanish and Latin American Studies at Nottingham University.

She has also worked as an intern at the British Embassy in Lima. She is fluent in Spanish and passionate about empowering marginalized Peruvian women through trade. Mamacha supports over one hundred women knitting alpaca clothing, which is sold through boutiques, catalogues, websited and events in the UK, Ireland and Japan.

BEN RAMSDEN

Area of Expertise: Ethical Fashion Business- Overall business strategy, sourcing, finance and funding

Ben launched underwear brand Pants to Poverty in 2005 while coordinating the youth movement for the Make Poverty History campaign. The company is one of the leading ethical and sustainable fashion brands, pioneering socially responsible supply chains with fair wages and extensive training programmes proving a new business model for fashion. Ben is also the founder of Pi Foundation.

Ben previously worked for Amnesty International. Three years of travelling and working in the developing world drove him to embark on his mission to make fair trade and ethical consumerism a reality. He has recently launched a pioneering PANTS BOND to fund the growth of the business with interest paid in Pants.

Ben will be speaking at Business Excellence on Saturday 4th June.

CHARLIE ROSS

Area of Expertise: Sourcing, production, startups and design

Charlie Ross is founder of OffsetWarehouse.com, an online resource that brings together the elements needed to create ethical fashion and interiors.

Charlie graduated with a Masters in Menswear design from the RCA. Highlights of her design career have been presenting designs and concepts to some of the biggest names in the industry including Umbro, Albini, Thierry Mugler and Brioni, and being an award-winner for her debut, menswear collection, which took her to both Italy and New Zealand.

Charlie uses the knowledge she has gained from her own challenges of sustainable sourcing and production, to offer an invaluable understanding of business, fashion markets, technical design and manufacturing and an in depth knowledge of materials and production sourcing.

In addition to an online, ethical fabric shop, Offset Warehouse provides support for businesses of all sizes, through an ethical directory, a resources area and a consultancy. Offset Warehouse solves the problem of sourcing small quantities of ethical fabrics and of finding all the manufacturers and services needed to create fashion and interiors ethically.

Clare is one of the UK’s foremost experts when it comes to ethical sourcing and supply chains. A trained social and environmental auditor, she has a breadth of knowledge and experience in the challenges of building up sustainable supply chains and the ins and outs of standards and certification.

Courtney Blackman is a London-based entrepreneur working in the fashion industry. In 2006, she co-founded London’s Fashion Business Club where she served as managing director and co-chairman for five years.

She founded London’s Forward PR in 2004, where she currently sits as managing director. Forward PR is a press relations agency focused on fashion, jewellery, accessories, media, and large-scale global events, located in London’s Mayfair. Forward PR works with renowned labels from around the world and has successfully secured media coverage in hundreds of outlets ranging from glossy magazines and blogs to film festivals and music videos.

Diana is a highly experienced industry professional with 20 years senior buying experience in fashion multiples. She has notable proficiency in developing, sourcing, launching and building brands.Most recently as Brand Manager for Aurora Intimates, developing and launching lingerie, nightwear and swimwear collections for Odille and Karen Millen.

Diana is an experienced manager having recruited, developed and mentored teams of designers, buyers, merchandisers and technologists; as well as PR and marketing teams.

Previously Diana was Head of Buying at Oasis, managing buying teams on clothing, shoes and accessories. She has implemented sourcing strategies for all product areas, in countries including Far East, India, Turkey, Europe and Africa; working both directly with factories, also through agents and on a CMT basis, she has developed supplier quality and performance standards in line with various brands’ requirements.

Diana also has project management experience in launching products and brands in retail, wholesale and online.

Diana is on the board of the Ethical Fashion Consultancy.

DIANA VERDE NIETO

Area of Expertise: International sustainability communications consultant and entrepreneur.

Argentinean by birth and European in spirit, Diana is the founder and former CEO of Clownfish, a global sustainability communications consultancy. She took the company from a niche, London-based company to a global brand known for innovative thinking and creativity in the sustainability and communications fields.

In 2008, Clownfish was acquired by Aegis Media, a global media company. In 2010, Diana stepped down as Clownfish’s CEO in order to set up a global lifestyle e-retailer.

In March 2011, The World Economic Forum nominated Diana as Young Global Leaders (YGL’s). The honor, bestowed each year by the Forum, recognizes up to 200 outstanding young leaders from around the world for their professional accomplishments, commitment to society and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world.

Amongst other things, Diana has been trained by Al Gore at the Alliance of Climate Protection, and serves as an advisor to many companies, governments and non-governmental organisations.

EMILY PEARCE

Area of Expertise: Events Management, promotion, partnerships and fashion design

Emily is the Senior Manager at the Ethical Fashion Forum and currently manages the marketing, PR and social networking team at the EFF. She was responsible for developing and delivering the marketing campaigns as well as event management for the Excellence in Ethical Fashion Intensive Training Day in December 2010, Ethical Fashion SOURCE EXPO, and the EFF’s Ethical Fashion Networking events programme, which takes place monthly in London as well as in 12 other locations in the world. Emily is now responsible for strategy, marketing and resource development for the EFF’s Excellence in Ethical Fashion Programme.

ILARIA PASQUINELLI

Area of Expertise: International marketing strategy

Ilaria is an international Marketing Consultant for the textile and fashion industry. She has advised both private and public companies, including not for profit organisations, such as the International Trade Centre (UNCTAD-WTO agency), and Enterprise Mauritius, part of Trade and Industry Ministry. Ilaria is Marketing Director of SPINNA

Ilaria has a global network of contacts, including brands and retailers, trade and consumer magazines and governmental organisations. Currently, her focus of interest lies with facilitating business links between emerging countries and western buyers.

Ilaria has expertise in managing international marketing projects, namely supporting companies to form appropriate market entry strategies. Her strengths lie in her ability to effectively analyze markets and coherently manage marketing functions.

After graduating from the University of Florence, Italy, in ‘Marketing and Internationalisation of Textiles and Fashion’; Ilaria is now completing a Master’s Degree in Marketing. She is also fluent in Italian, English and French.

IVI VARDA

Area of Expertise: Marketing Strategy and Client Services

Ivi has over 15 years of project and strategic marketing, has worked in new business development, consulting and strategic marketing planning in various industries including fashion, arts & education, and advertising in both Europe and the US. She has extensive experience of creating and managing partnership activity in non-profit and commercial sectors. She is also the founder of Ivi Varda, go shopping go personal, which was established in New York in 2006 and since 2008 has been spreading its shopping consultancy in London and Athens. The company offers style advising and personal shopping ideas and services to people who shop on a budget.

As part of the Ethical Fashion Consultancy branch of Ethical Fashion Forum in the role of account management, Ivi supports the team at a strategic level in the development of the marketing plan, marketing materials and web platform, managing and responding to incoming work and supporting EFC board members in the preparation of proposals and responses to requests for consultancy work and projects. She also acts as an ambassador for EFC at functions and events, promoting EFC and its work through other channels such as press and PR and representing EFC in meetings.

Alongside with her role at the EFC, Ivi is currently working towards a PhD in Marketing at Cardiff University, focusing on the topic of sustainable fashion and marketing communications. She also holds a MA in Marketing and a BSc degree in Marketing Management.

Area of Expertise: Intellectual Property Rights e.g.Trade Marks and Design Rights.

Jo is Partner and Head of the Retail and Fashion Group at Joelson Wilson. She is alive to the issues which the ethical fashion industry faces, from sourcing materials to the production of garments and labelling. Joanne can offer advice on the early development of your brand, including identifying, protecting and enforcing Intellectual Property rights and putting in place key agreements to exploit, enhance and manage your brand.

Area of Expertise: Natural fibres and mainstream fair trade

Judith is an associate member of the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) and director of Trading for Development. TFD’s work involves opening markets for Fair Trade producers and building support for Fair Trade across Europe.

Her concern is to make world trade fairer, giving pride of place to small scale producers.

Area of Expertise: International commercial and ethical fashion retail, sales and brand development

Founder and director of Foundation Agency. Jules has been an influential driving force in the evolution of the ethical fashion industry within the UK since 2004, most noticeably her work in sales, highlighting her passion and drive in getting ethical fashion out on to high street and into a mainstream arena.

Jules has worked in the fashion industry for over 12 years, focusing in retail and sales. Jules’s worked at Fair Trade pioneers People Tree for over 2 years increasing sales seven fold during her time there.

Jules has worked on the development of numerous brands including: Paul Frank, Dickies, GSUS, Stone Island, Tretorn and Evisu.

Jules set up Foundation Agency in April 2008 starting with just one employee, her! In under three years, Foundation has increased in staff numbers to seven, added a second department (PR) and grown their client list to include some of the UK and Europe’s most fashionable and well respected ethical fashion and lifestyle brands.

Head of Apparel Research at Euromonitor International, Magdalena Kondej manages the annual research programme for the global Apparel industry at Euromonitor International, which she joined in 2005.

Euromonitor International is the world’s leading consumer market analyst. For more than 35 years, Euromonitor has published internationally respected market research reports, business reference books and online information systems, providing strategic business intelligence for the world’s leading FMCG multinationals.

In her current position, Magdalena has direct responsibility over the content and quality of Euromonitor’s Apparel research, which provides strategic analysis of the global market for these industries and in-depth coverage 46 countries world-wide.

Before joining Euromonitor International, Magdalena worked as a Marketing Consultant, conducting market research and strategic analysis projects. Magdalena has obtained a Masters Degree in Marketing and Management with a major in Strategic Management.

Mariusz has worked in the UK fashion industry for some 20 years, managing contract and retail accounts. He has worked with supply chains across Europe and Asia. Over the last 8 years he has helped with the development of Continental Clothing, and project-managed the development and production of their EarthPositive line.

Area of expertise: Promotion, sales, branding, merchandising and brand development.

Matt Peters has been working within the T-shirt and promotions industry for over twenty years – working closely with major record labels and bands as well as in the area of retail and fashion branding. As a result, his expertise goes across the board – from dealing with manufactures and factories (both domestically and overseas) to merchandising and brand development. He started working at the ethically-centred T-shirt manufacturers Mantis World in 2008 helping further develop the company’s bespoke offering and sales division.

PRAMA BHARDWAJ

Area of Expertise: Development economics, with a focus on Africa and exemplary sourcing

Prama Bhardwaj, Mantis World, holds a Masters Degree in Development Economics, with a focus on development in Africa. Prama has spoken on sustainable manufacturing at the Ethical Fashion Forum and is a key proponent of ethical working practices to the promotional merchandise industry through the BPMA and trade publications.

Ten years ago, Prama founded Mantis World – importers and wholesalers of sustainably sourced clothing. The company works primarily with their family-owned vertical mill, Sunflag Tanzania employing over 1500 workers. They offer a fully transparent supply chain certified by GOTS and compliant with BSCI. Other supply routes include textile mills in Turkey, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, operating on the same criteria of sustainability and transparency. The company supports community projects in East Africa including training, education and homes for children and disadvantaged groups.

Mantis World work alongside fashion brands and garment suppliers turning designs into finished garments – either through custom manufacturing or using an extensive stock range of “blank” garments which can be relabelled, printed and decorated. Their mission is to make ethical and organic cotton clothing affordable and easy to order with no minimum order quantities.

Area of Expertise: Social investment and raising capital for socially and enviornmentally driven businesses.

Simon is Social Business Manager at Clearly So, the leading global hub for social business, enterprise, commerce and investment. Tamara Cincik works as a contributing Fashion Editor for a number of leading international publications, including Muse magazine. After graduating from UCL with a BA Honours degree in English Literature, Tamara assisted various leading stylists, including Camilla Nickerson and Venetia Scott, then working for Anna Cockburn, whom she assisted for over three years.

She has worked as a consultant for brands from Christian Lacroix, to Topshop; from couture and high-end catwalk to high street: working at all levels of the market, consulting and creating designs which best suit their brand profile. Year on year, clients who have worked with Tamara have seen improved sales. This season she styled three shows for London Fashion Week.

TAMSIN LEJEUNE

Area of Expertise: Ethical Fashion Business- Overall business strategy, sourcing, finance and funding

Tamsin is Founder and Managing Director of the Ethical Fashon Forum and has over 10 years of experience in the ethical fashion business sector. She holds a masters in International Development, is the author of “Can Fashion be Fair?” and is trained in fashion design and fashion business management. In 2003 she founded fair trade fashion label juste, one of the first design led fairtrade fashion labels, developing a pioneering supply chain model in Bangladesh, raising seed funding through social investment and achieving considerable success.

Over the last 2-3 years, Tamsin has raised over £300,000 for the launch of a raft of initiatives in the ethical fashion sector, succeeding with grant funding, corporate sponsorship, social investment and other forms of funding. She has secured partnerships with leading multinationals, fashion bodies and global institutions such as the UN.
