House of Lords Round Table - 8th December

On the 8th December, Baroness Lola Young will chair an unprecedented event on sustainable fashion that will include an exclusive preview and round table on the SOURCE: The Sustainability Tool Kit for the Fashion Industry, as well as a spotlight on best fashion business practice in Africa – presented by sector leaders. There will be representatives from WGSN, ASOS, Levi Strauss, Tesco and the British Retail Consortium – to name a few.

This round table event is fully booked but we will be holding a second SOURCE round table on the 26th January in Portland Place, London W1. Let us know if you would like to attend then.

The SOURCE is a ground breaking initiative by the Ethical Fashion Forum (EFF), the industry body for sustainable fashion.

Building on 5 years of research and development by EFF, the Ethical Fashion SOURCE aims to make it easier for fashion professionals and businesses to work sustainably, make it easier for consumers and buyers to buy from sustainable fashion businesses, and link fair trade and ethical suppliers to market. A social enterprise, its goal is to support the growing shift in the fashion sector towards social and environmental sustainability – to transform livelihoods for 2.5 million people in the developing world within 5 years, and to radically reduce the environmental impact of the fashion sector.

The initiative has been developed in consultation with representatives from the Fair trade Foundation, World Fair Trade Organisation, and Textiles Exchange, and aims to promote the work of these and other organisations working to improve standards in the fashion sector.

We will be asking for participants input and feedback on the SOURCE, and seeking experts to join the SOURCE advisory panel.

To inspire and motivate participants around best practice in the fashion sector, and to illustrate the role of the SOURCE as a platform for this, the event will include TED (http://www.ted.com/) style 5-10 minute presentations by sector leaders, with a focus on fashion business initiatives in Africa.

Presentations include:
ASOS Africa: Christian Smith, CSR Manager / Claire Hamer, Ei8ht
Cotton Made in Africa: Stephan Engel, Managing Director, Aid by Trade Foundation
Mantis World, Ethical Garment Manufacturer in East Africa: Prama Bhardwaj, Managing Director
Africa Fashion Guide: Jacqueline Shaw, Founder
Fashion Africa: Best Practice on the SOURCE: Tamsin Lejeune, Managing Director, Ethical Fashion Forum
