Key products/services

Directional, tailored, clean, ready to wear womenswear designed in NYC and produced in India.

Profile

behno is an advanced contemporary womenswear label that is designed in NYC, but exclusively produced in India. The brand believes in a space where ethical thinking and luxury design meet. behno’s mission is to redefine and bring sharp awareness to the craft and character of “made in India”, and to set a new standard for Indian factory manufacturing that demonstrably improves the quality of life and safety of women in the garment trade.

As behno grows, next steps include localising its product as much as possible to India. In order to do this, behno will be sourcing appropriate fabrics within India, and also working with artisan groups in order to give market access to beautiful handmade textiles.

Ethical Focus & Policy

behno has partnered with a large nonprofit in rural Gujarat, called Muni Seva Ashram (MSA) and a successful veteran of the garmenting industry to build an ethical garmenting factory called MSA Ethos. Along with following rigid international compliance standard, MSA Ethos will also be implementing something termed “The behno Standard”.

“The behno Standard’s” principles are broken down into six main categories: health, garment worker mobility, family planning, women’s rights, worker satisfaction and benefits, and eco-consciousness.
