Key products/services

Fair trade clothing since 1989.

Profile

It’s the combination of home and afar that makes each Nomads collection original and creates the handwriting and unique style. Pieces are made to be favourites. Well-made, colourful and designed for a journey. Based in the wilds of Cornwall, seascape on the doorstep, belonging to this poetic and diverse part of England. Likewise, exploring new and familiar lands – eyes open for inspiration.

Nomads have a passion for traditional crafts and supporting fair trade values. Using organic cotton, exclusive prints and attention to artisan detailing. Ethical clothing to layer, to keep the wearer content, comfortable – feeling and looking good.

Nomads is looking to expand its retail online website as well as selling to new shops in UK and Europe. Its retail customer database is currently growing – and Nomads is hoping this will work even better in the coming seasons.

Ethical Focus & Policy

Since 1989, Nomads have been making clothing without compromise. Factories meet fair trade standards as outlined by Nomads policy (see website for details). Promoting the policy of “trade not aid” to help maintain a sustainable and profitable living. Using GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic cotton and recycling wherever possible. Incorporating artisan craft into some designs, promoting traditional craft. A percentage of profits are also used to support TAMWED, a non-profit horticultural charity based in India.

In 2015 Nomads started working with a small start up business in India to make wood block hand printed clothing, kaftans and loungewear. This new business venture helps to support the artisans who design and carve the blocks and hand print the fabric. The process is very slow and requires skilled craft. This supports traditional methods and keeps them alive in India as well as supporting the livelihoods of the smaller communities where the fabric is produced.
